Celliant Technology x Boxing

How I designed the first FDA approved boxing glove…

After launching Kali Active, I wanted to continue to explore how I could innovate products with technology. I came across a local company called Celliant who were about to be FDA cleared for their new innovative fabrics.

While the company had been around for a while, they were really making movement within certain categories like health and wellness. The company specializes in responsive infrared textiles that help the wearer with better blood flow and recovery.

I approached the company to see if we could find ways to incorporate their technology into a sports product like boxing gloves. Boxing gloves were a great vehicle for the responsive features directed towards a boxer’s hand. We narrowed it down to a specific nylon we could line the gloves with. They had used the nylon once before on Floyd Mayweather's gloves but they hadn’t really received much feedback after.

Our thesis was proven right as we tested the gloves with a few experienced boxing trainers and customers. We had two trainers who really enjoyed the product because, after years in the punch game, their hands were always very sore and achy. They felt the Celliant lining really did make a difference and they had a better training session than their other branded gloves. Another feature we were happy to discover was that new lining made the gloves dry faster after each use.
